1. What is Orita.Sinclair - School of Art and New Media?
Registered with the Ministry of Education, the School of Art & New Media was the first Art school in Singapore to offer a nine month Diploma and six month Advanced Diploma in New Media Art since 2003. The School now offers a
nine month Diploma in Design Communication with the same commitment, dedication and successful results.
When you join us you will learn how to achieve your professional goals in GRAPHIC DESIGN, PACKAGING DESIGN, ADVERTISING DESIGN, WEB & INTERACTIVE MEDIA DESIGN and achieve your ambition in joining the creative industries.

2. How will I learn?
We will provide you with a team of dedicated lecturers. You will learn in a small group. A unique and conducive enviroment will contribute to the your development, your creative potential and your way of seeing and thinking. In addition, we will give you your own PC desktop to take home (computer belongs to the student provided they complete the course).

For us, the word CREATIVITY is not another buzz word that's taken for granted. Moreover, we know that creativity is a PROCESS that has to be developed carefully with experience and passion.

5. Why a Diploma in Design Communication?
Due to world industry needs, it is clear that there is tremendous potential in the area of New Media Art, so the School has decided to develop a curriculum that would best suit the needs of those who wish to pursue this field.
This is a very exciting area of study and this programme will benefit those who wish to develop themselves creatively as well as develop a professional portfolio which will enable them to pursue further studies or a career in the creative industry.

6. What will students be taught in this course?
Students will be taught to develop their thinking and conceptual ability in a creative and artistic way.
They will be introduced to concept and content development in visual communication and design which includes typography, graphic design, packaging design, advertising design, web & interactive media design as well
as the necessary software skills used as tools for developing work. In projects, students will utilize their knowledge from the various subjects taught to develop their portfolio.
Students are expected to spend a number of self-study hours for each subject and in order to help and encourage this, the School will provide each student with a personal computer to take home.

7. How was the syllabus developed?
Through considerable observation of the market needs and experience in art education and curriculum development, this syllabus was developed by a team of professionals and it was developed with the needs and directions of students in mind.
What students learn will be applicable to any changes or trends that take place in the future.
Technology is progressive, so artists must be adaptable and versatile. For example, what is popular as a medium now, may progress into something quite different tomorrow. This would not be a problem for someone who is able to think laterally and creatively.

8. Why is this course limited to a small number of students?
We do not take more than twelve students per class and this is to enable quality teaching and time between lecturers and students. This will also provide students with the necessary guidance and supervision.
This way of teaching would be closer to the European standard where students are taught in small numbers.
As the numbers of students grow, the School will employ more qualified lecturers and still maintain the same number of students per class.

9. Who will benefit from this Diploma course? Someone who is well versed in technology or someone who is artistically inclined?
Both would benefit from the course.
One who is artistically inclined would further develop their creative skills while developing a better understanding of technology and use it more effectively to realize their concepts.
On the other hand, one who is technologically inclined would learn to think laterally and develop creative concepts. They would learn how to apply technology to develop their ideas.
This course would also benefit those already in industry and wish to upgrade themselves.

10. How is quality teaching ensured?
The School employs lecturers who are professionals in art education and industry. All lecturers are university graduates from various institutions such as the Royal College of Art, Birmingham Institute of Art & Design from the University of Central England, Pratt Institute in New York to name a few.
