MORE SUCCESS STORIES
|
Rezan Amiruddin
Rezan was only seventeen years old and loved animation when he enrolled at Orita.Sinclair - School of Art and New Media. He was the youngest in his class.
After nine months, Rezan graduated with Distinction and was ready to pursue further studies. With his professional portfolio from the School of Art & New Media, Rezan applied to various colleges & universities specializing in animation and was accepted into three universities in the UK and one in the US.
Rezan had wanted to study at Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD), one of the top art & design colleges in the US but it proved to costly.
However, with his portfolio, Rezan was offered a scholarship at Savannah College of Art & Design and he is now not only a student there but is also one of their student ambassadors. Now any of our students can make contact with Rezan with regards to studying at SCAD as a graduate from Orita.Sinclair – School of Art & New Media.
Acquiring the scholarship was definitely well worth the nine month spent at our School and we wish Rezan all the very best in his studies at SCAD!

A choice
I chose Orita.Sinclair because I wanted to make a choice. People are so obsessed about immediately jumping to the tertiary education that they don't stop and think: what do they really want to do?
After I finished school, I guess I wanted to try different things. Furthermore, OS was the only school that provided a 9-month course similar to the likes of Gnomon, VFS, Escape Studios etc. It was close to home as well.
How Did it Go?
The best part about working within OS is the amount of people in the class. Since the number of students is limited, interaction is easier and there are no differences in ideals. We get a lot of studio time and because of that we can get help easily from the lecturers and stronger students in different areas. And most lecturers are on chat programs so contacting them is very easy.
A Challenge
Being a graduate from OS proves that I have achieved something quite significant. Graduating from OS means that I have completed a hefty amount of assignments that were challenging. But people always say "No pain, no gain". I can see that I have gained valuable experience and knowledge about the workings of the industry.
A Portfolio
OS is an excellent place to build the portfolio. Many schools/employers look for foundation work and without OS I wouldn't have any of that. The course that OS offers also covers many areas in the art industry allowing me to showcase versatility in my portfolio. OS also gives you an inside look at the industry in detail at times.
This way you have a greater understanding of the subject when writing to the universities. Your knowledge in the area gives you the maturity that lacks in the average student's application.
There are plenty of scholarships being offered at SCAD. Unbelievably I actually received one of the artistic scholarships! Despite the great works submitted by many incoming students, the applicants here are weak especially about work concerning computer applications. Most students that use computer apps aren't very good with hands-on work like life drawing/ painting etc.
SCAD
SCAD is a great place because: great weather (not too cold), a lot of international students, fantastic facilities, many guest speakers come (Spike Lee was here a week ago), great job connection services, scenic location, a lot of majors and minors and a lot more. And the best part is that everyone here are as passionate as u are about the subjects you are interested in.
Future
I would probably try and get a job after I graduate, although I'm still not sure where. I will try to get internships at different places here and there and there's already a company willing to take me as an intern in Malaysia. As a freshman, I can't apply for internships with Pixar/Dreamworks etc. yet but I have heard that getting internships is the best way to get a job after you graduate.
Well I would like to thank everyone at Orita.Sinclair! That experience actually made it possible for me to come to SCAD and I hope that many of you will follow suit.
Thank you, Rezan
Any student who has questions for Rezan may e-mail him at rezan.amiruddin@gmail.com
