Specialist Diploma in Live Sound

Course Overview

The live events industry has been radically transformed in the last few years. Live sound engineers need to play multiple roles and be able to harness digital technologies to create exciting and memorable live events.

The Specialist Diploma in Live Sound will develop your ability to plan and set up live sound events using digital live audio equipment and develop your proficiency with the industry-standard Dante protocol. You will also learn the art of recording and mixing live event performances. Finally, you will hone your ability to set up a modern live event, integrating audio and video feeds for live streaming and hybrid events. Take your first steps into the exciting world of live music and events as a live sound professional and more.

You will be challenged with real-world scenarios as you learn from seasoned experts. Take advantage of the many opportunities to explore authentic event spaces and engage with professionals at the forefront of the industry.     Modules

    Entry Requirements

    Applicants are required to meet the following minimum requirements

    1. At least 18 years old

      AND

    2. At least 1 year relevant working experience in audio engineering and at least a pass in English at ‘N’ Level or a minimum proficiency level of the WSQ Workplace Literacy Level (WPL) 5

      OR

    3. Completed Diploma in Music Production and Audio Engineering at Orita Sinclair

      OR

    4. A recognised diploma or degree in a related field

    Applicants who do not have the required relevant working experience, will have to sit for an interview to evaluate if their existing level of competency is sufficient for the course requirements.

    *International applicants with equivalent academic qualifications will be considered.

    Vinod has been avid music performer since young, later branching out and specializing in audio engineering. He developed a keen interest in the recording arts and obtained his degree in Audio Engineering and Music Production from JMC Academy in Melbourne, Australia. His skills led him to work on the Sound Design and mixing of short film called “Fixed” which became the official selections of Film Festivals in Melbourne, Iran and Mexico. It was also accepted by the 18th Bicycle Film Festival in New York. Not only restricting himself to the recording aspect of music, his passion for performance and music brought him most recently to Brisbane, Australia to play at the Dead of Winter Festival 2019 as well as being able to open for Multi Major award winner Hariharan when he came to Singapore mid-2019. Other international acts he as opened for include: Immolation (NYC), Venom Inc (UK), The Exploited (UK).

    Having almost two decades of industry experience, Damien specializes in Location Sound Recording, Mixing Audio for Post Production, Sound Design, Music Composition, And Audio Restoration. He’s a passionate guitarist and is well-versed with Waves Sound Design Suite Plugins and Positive Grid Vias Desktop Guitar Amp Emulation. His recent works include recording audio on set, mixing audio and producing sound design for video for Dramas and TVC corporate videos.

    Thng Kai Siang Kaizer

    Nanyang Technological University
    Holding a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts (Digital Filmmaking) from NTU, Kaizer Thng is an award-winning director and creative producer specializing in film, commercial and social media content. He also holds a Diploma in Music and Audio Engineering from Orita Sinclair School of Design and Music. Kaizer’s professional achievements include directing social media content (e.g. musicals and web series) that have garnered more than tens of millions of views during his work with SGAG, a popular Singaporean social media company where he led teams consisting of scriptwriters, producers, directors of photography, editors and cast members. Notable writer-director works include How to Bury a Dead Cat (featured on Mediacorp Channel 5 and Dubai Expo), Such is Life (winner of the Viddsee Juree Silver Award 2018 and featured on the international streaming platform Cinema World), and Trapper - the latter 2 films being “Best Picture” nominees of the National Youth Film Award.
